Government of Canada Awards a) The Patterson Medal The Patterson Distinguished Service Medal is awarded by the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) to residents of Canada for distinguished service to Meteorology.  This award is named in honour of Dr. John Patterson, a meteorologist who was Director and Controller of the Meteorological Service of Canada from 1929 to 1946, a crucial period in the development of Canada's weather service. The Patterson Medal, first presented in 1954, is considered the pre-eminent award recognizing outstanding work in meteorology by residents of Canada.  Although not a CMOS Award, the Patterson Medal  is traditionally announced during the CMOS Congress.  MSC has kindly agreed to allow the CMOS Web Site to contain the Honour Roll of Patterson Medal Winners. Go to call for nominations for the Patterson Medal   b) The Parsons Medal In 2005, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) established an award to recognize excellence in Canadian ocean sciences. The award is named in honour of Dr. Tim Parsons who has had a distinguished career in Canadian and international oceanography. The Timothy R. Parsons medal is awarded to residents of Canada for distinguished accomplishments in multidisciplinary facets of ocean sciences either during their lifetime or for a recent outstanding achievement.  Although not a CMOS Award, the Parsons Medal  is traditionally announced during the CMOS Congress. Honneurs du Gouvernement du Canada a) La médaille Patterson (partialement en anglais maintenant) La médaille de service distingué de Patterson est decernee par le Service meteorologique du Canada (SMC) aux residents du Canada pour des services distingues rendus a la meteorologie. Le prix a été créé en l'honneur de M. John Patterson, un météorologue qui a été directeur et contrôleur du Service météorologique du Canada de 1929 à 1946, un période importante dans le développement du service météorologique du Canada. La médaille Patterson, qui a été décernée pour la toute première fois en 1954, est considérée comme le prix le plus important pour la reconnaissance du travail exceptionnel réalisé en météorologie par des Canadiens.  Il ne s'agit pas d'une distinction de la SCMO, mais on a coutume d'en annoncer la remise pendant un Congrès de la SCMO. Le SMC a eu l'amabilite de permettre d'inclure dans le site de la SCMO le palmares des laureats de la médaille Patterson.  Allez au appel de proposition pour la médaille Patterson b) La médaille Parsons En 2005, le ministère des Pêches et des Océans (MPO) a créé un nouveau prix afin de souligner l’excellence dans le domaine des sciences de la mer au Canada. La médaille Timothy R. Parsons sera remise à des scientifiques qui se sont distingués dans un domaine multidisciplinaire lié aux sciences de la mer et ayant œuvré au sein d’une institution canadienne, afin de reconnaître l’ensemble de leur carrière et/ou une réalisation exceptionnelle récente au profit de la science canadienne.  Il ne s'agit pas d'une distinction de la SCMO, mais on a coutume d'en annoncer la remise pendant un Congrès de la SCMO.  Le MPO a eu l'amabilite de permettre d'inclure dans le site de la SCMO le palmares des laureats de la médaille Parsons.
