RÉSUMÉ :

SHORT BIOGRAPHY:  Born in Gary, Indiana, Eyad Atallah saw his first tornado at the age of 8 as he and his family were driving to visit relatives in Detroit, Michigan. From that moment on, he was hooked on the weather and spent a good portion of his free time trying to learn about and understand the weather. After getting his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia in Environmental Science, he first worked for the National Weather Service's Joint Agriculture and Weather Facility in Washington D.C. and was the first intern given the responsibility of briefing US Department of Agriculture officials pertaining to expected weather and crop conditions in other parts of the world. After that, he went on to work at WRC-TV in Washington, under then American Meteorological Society President, Bob Ryan. After two years at the TV station, Eyad decided to pursue a post-secondary education and went to the University of Albany, where he received his Masters and Ph. D. degrees under the advisement of Dr. Lance Bosart. During his graduate education, Eyad became a successful tornado chaser, observing 11 tornadoes over 6 storm chases from 1998-2003 and led a television crew on a chase in 2000. After graduating from Albany, he became a Post-Doctoral Fellow at McGill University, where his duties quickly expanded to include teaching several classes. Eyad has published several papers while at McGill, with topics ranging from extratropical transition, to heavy precipitation processes, to wind-channeling and freezing rain in the St. Lawrence River Valley. Also, during his time at McGill, Eyad has taken a class into the field tornado chasing, and has participated in two successful outreach missions to aboriginal communities in the Canadian Arctic, concerning the processes and implications of climate change.

Awards: AMS graduate student fellowship, Bernie Vonnegut award for excellence in teaching, selection for the Hurricane and Tropical Meteorology Colloquium.
