Termes de référence


1. To promote and develop university and professional education in the meteorological and oceanographic communities for the benefit of all Canadians.

2. To serve as the focus for university and professional education issues within the society.

3. To act as an advisory group to the CMOS Executive and Council on matters related to the university and professional education in Canada and elsewhere.

4. To be a leader in developing a stronger synergy between the various constituencies (e.g. academia, Government, private sector) of the Canadian meteorological and oceanographic communities in matters regarding professional education.

5. To facilitate communication between employers and educators in meteorology and oceanography. The committee's objective is to encourage the development of university and professional programs that are both intellectually challenging and relevant to the needs of the community, now and in the future.

Mode of Operation: The Committee will normally work and meet by e-mail and teleconferences. It may also appoint ad hoc working or study groups as required. 

Membership and Terms of Office: The Chair and other members, appointed by Council shall serve for three-year renewable terms. 

Committee Level: This is a Council-appointed Committee. 

Report: The Committee will produce an annual report in accordance with Appendix III to the By-Laws.

Core Activities

1. Promote excellence in education in meteorology and oceanography.

2. Ensure that updated information is readily available to students regarding meteorological, oceanographic and environmental courses and programs in Canada.

3. Coordinate the efforts of both educators and employers with respect to employment needs.

4. Keep CMOS informed of the current state, challenges and issues of educational activities in Canada.
